Event Descriptions
Students will be working independently on the potter’s wheel to create a single form. Each student will be provided with approximately 12.5 lbs. of clay for this challenge. Cost: $20 per student entry (Limit of two entries per school)
Students will use various handbuilding techniques to create a conceptual sculpture. For the purposes of this event, a “sculpture” will be considered a non-functional form. Each student will be provided with approximately 12.5 lbs of clay for this challenge. Cost: $20 per student entry (Limit of two entries per school)
Students will work independently to create a multi-piece set on the potter’s wheel. Sets will consist of functional forms that consider visual unity in their design. Each student will be provided with approximately 12.5 lbs of clay for this challenge. Cost: $20 per student entry (Limit of two entries per school)
Students will use various handbuilding techniques to create functional forms. Submissions may consist of a single piece or a set of multiple pieces. Each student will be provided with approximately 12.5 lbs of clay for this challenge. Cost: $20 per student entry (Limit of two entries per school)

For a fun shift in the competition we have a collaborative event which will test the students' abilities to think on their feet, work together, and adapt to change! All participating students will be partnered up from other schools to complete an improvisational challenge in clay. There will be collaborative wheel throwing and collaborative hand-building aspects to the challenge. The purpose is to help strengthen the relationships within our surrounding clay community for future generations. Cost: Free- There will be NO entry fee for collaborative events. However, you must be participating in a paid event to be eligible for the collaboration challenges.
Students will work in teams of two from their respective schools to create handbuilt pieces. Submissions may be sculptural and/or functional objects. Schools will decide however to split the duties among its team members. Each team will be provided with approximately 25 lbs of clay for this challenge. Cost: $30 per team entry (Limit of one entry per school)
